Syllabus for Art 43 Distance Learning

I recommend that you learn the course material for the following modules in a linear order:

* Orientation
* Module 1: Information Design
* Module 2: Web Page Design
* Module 3: Website Design
* Module 4: Content Creation

I also suggest that you work on the modules weekly, at least 12 hours per week. That will ensure that you are ready to complete your assignments/projects when they are due.

Grading System
To receive a credit grade for this course you must:

1. Complete all assignments/projects by the dates they are due (check the Calendar). Complete and turn in a website to the instructor by the end of the course. You can access directions and requirements of each assignment by clicking on the Assignments button to the left. You will be dropped from the course during the first three weeks if your first assignment is not received on time.

2. Actively participate in the discussion forums - you are required to post to the forums at least twice per each module (once in response to the instructors topic and at least once more in response to another student.)

Your active participation in the course is determined by your timely participation in the forum and the submission of your assignments according to the posted due dates. These two requirements are the method by which we measure that you have consumed the material in the course modules and know how to apply what you've learned. The absence of your participation in the forum and missing assignments will be grounds for an instructor drop (W grade).

The graded projects are evaluated on the following point system:

1. Animated GIF: 15 points
2. Critique of another student’s animated GIF: 5 points
3. Mock Website: 15 points
4. Critique of another student’s mock website: 5 points
5. 2-3 page research paper: 15 points
6. Critique of another student’s research paper: 5 points
7. Website Development. Halfway point: 15 points
8. Critique of another student’s Website: 5 points
9. Website design/finished uploaded site: 20 points
TOTAL 100 points

Participating in The Discussion Forum
You are required to participate on the Discussion Forums. Some assignments require you to upload a project to the Art Department server and provide a link to it on the Discussion Forum. Other assignments require you to post critiques of another students’ projects.

CLICK on the message topic to respond to the message, and fill in the NAME, E-MAIL, and MESSAGE fields. Then click on POST MESSAGE. PLEASE do not initiate any new Message Threads. Your instructor will post all discussion topics. If you want to suggest a new topic, please email your Instructor first; your instructor will post the topic to the proper Forum.
